Thirteen dwarves and a wizard came for dinner. They came to invite Bilbo Baggins on an adventure. Now adventure not part of Bilbo’s vocabulary. To live a quiet, sedentary life was all one hobbit could ask for. Now Gandalf came to his dinner table and invited him on the adventure. Would he take it? Yes, after much persuasion.

Gordon Gecko, the high flying speculator from the movie “Wall Street” coined the phrase, “Greed is good.” To him, it was. It brought him the things he wanted—a big office with people at his beck and call. A beautiful beach house in the Hamptons, and untold wealth to do with what he liked. But he got trapped by his greed, and that is often what happens with greed. It traps you until you have no way out. It can be humbling.

Ninth grade was the worst year I ever had in school. The first two years at West Geauga Junior High School had been OK. I had played sports. Got decent grades. Had some fun. But for some reason things went badly in ninth grade.
